13th European Hip Society Congress

03/10/2018

The Hague 20-22 September 2018

September proved to be a hectic month for me, as no sooner had I returned from sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues in India, I donned my European Hip Society (EHS) hat and set off for the congress in The Hague.

A busy programme saw me act as Chair of two sessions, one dedicated to revisiting resurfacing surgery and the other on registries and outcomes. I also presented to conference on Early development and results of Resurfacing Arthroplasty, an important topic at this time, given the historic failure issues associated with these implants. A joint presentation of research undertaken by my charity, Arthroplasty for Arthritis was made by Ian Clark, who provided an update on metal on metal wear mechanisms.

As a member of the EHS Scientific Committee, I began planning the next EHS Congress which will be held in Lille in 2020 and I attended my final meeting as the national representative for the British Hip Society at the EHS, a post I will retire from this year having served two consecutive terms of four years each.

The EHS Congress attracts hundreds of medical professionals and boasts an outstanding faculty that includes some highly talented surgeons from all over the world. The electric atmosphere provides a hotbed for enthusiastic delegates and faculty to both share and absorb the latest hip specialty updates.
