Evert Chairs Stryker's EEMEA Cementless Hip Symposium in Amsterdam - 24 & 25 June 2019

As Chair of Stryker’s EEMEA Cementless Hip Symposium in Amsterdam, along with an all-star faculty including Arthur Stephen - Royal Derby Hospital UK, Hilgaard Visser - University of Pretoria South Africa, Mazhar Tokgozoglu - Hacettepe University Hospital Turkey, Jim Nevelos - Orthopaedic Engineer and Senior Director Research Engineer Hip Tribology - Stryker USA and Thies Wuestemann Senior Design Engineer (Accolade II) - Stryker Germany, an informative and successful programme was delivered.

The meeting provided tutorials on many topical issues in total hip replacement (THR) discussing the design implications of stems and cups, robotics in THR, surgical approaches, 3-D technology and Stryker’s Trident technology.

Minimally invasive and robotic assisted surgery were main features of the conference, as the hip replacement fraternity debate the safest, most effective ways to provide patients with improved outcomes and enhanced recovery.

I presented on cemented versus cementless THR; temporal change in the use of cementless femoral stems; stubbies (short stems); considerations for use of the Direct Superior Approach (DSA), Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) and the SPAIRE - Spare Piriformis and Internus Repair Externes approach.
